PAX sapiens Pledge of Support for Global Pandemic Prevention through the Pandemic Fund

As a dedicated philanthropic partner in the global effort to prevent pandemics , PAX sapiens extends our congratulations on the successful outcome of the Pandemic Fund Pledging Event, held alongside the G20 Joint Finance and Health Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro on October 30th. We also wish to express our continued support and commitment to the objectives of the Pandemic Fund.

“As part of a joint declaration, a group of philanthropic partners affirmed their strong support for the Pandemic Fund,” a public statement issued by Ambassador John Nkengasong and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Treasury Eric Meyer acknowledged the importance of philanthropic participation.

In alignment with this shared vision, PAX sapiens is honored to join fellow philanthropic organizations in pledging our full commitment to the success of the Pandemic Fund. Through this pledge, we reaffirm our dedication to strengthening a multidisciplinary global system advancing the goal of pandemic prevention.

Full Pledge Statement

The Pandemic Fund is a vital component of the pandemic preparedness and response architecture.  As a non-governmental or philanthropic organization, we strongly support its mission and vision. Philanthropic support has played a major role in catalyzing the creation of the Pandemic Fund, and it must play a major role in its success going forward. To that end we support the following actions and will work in partnership with the Pandemic Fund.

  • First, we support raising new philanthropic funding for the Pandemic Fund for this pledging cycle, with the goal of reaching or exceeding pledges of at least $100 million. This financing should come in the form of new direct support, co-financing, and co-investment. There should also be opportunities for matching investments that spur additional support for the Pandemic Fund.
  • Second, we support the creation of an external advisory group to support the work of the Fund, which will bring additional voices from philanthropy (and private sector) with the goal of increasing philanthropic (and private sector) organizations involvement in the Fund, including in the design and implementation of Pandemic Fund proposals; providing technical advice to the Board; raising support for the Pandemic Fund through direct financing, co-investment, and co-financing opportunities; and in tracking outcomes.
  • Finally, we pledge to actively work with Pandemic Fund Board members, countries, and other stakeholders to ensure the Fund is sustainable and successful in its vision of assuring a world safe and secure from the threats posed by pandemics and other health emergencies.
